STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Southern Events Management, Inc. has requested permission to
reschedule the volleyball tournament originally scheduled for September 17 - 18 to November
19 - 20, 2016, utilizing county beach area to conduct a two day volleyball tournament.
BACKGROUND and ANALYSIS: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county
recreational areas, including parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks,
beaches, or recreational areas within Okaloosa County.
A request has been received from Southern Events Management, Inc. to reschedule the two day
volleyball tournament at the Boardwalk originally permitted for September 17 & 18, 2016 to
November 19 & 20, 2016. The event would take place beginning Saturday, November 19th and
would continue through Sunday, November 20th between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
each day. Setup for the event would begin Friday, November 18th and final break down would
take place Monday, September 21st. All permit fees have been collected.
This request to reschedule has been reviewed by Public Works, Public Safety, the Sheriff’s
Office, the Okaloosa Island Fire Department and the Lessee at the Boardwalk. All have
concurred with the requested date change.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the request from Southern Events Management to
reschedule 2-day volleyball tournament to be held on the County beach adjacent to the
Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island as submitted by Southern Events Management.
