BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: March 3, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Nathan Sparks, Executive Director, EDC SUBJECT: Public Hearing - Consideration of Ad Valorem Tax Exemption STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Economic Development Council of Okaloosa County requests the Board hear public comment and consider an Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemption (EDATE) for Project Proud. Project Proud is a business located in Crestview, FL. BACKGROUND: The EDC proposes the attached resolution (Exhibit A) reflecting the Ad Valorem Tax Exemption year-to-year values based on assessments conducted by the Okaloosa County Property Appraiser’s office (Exhibit B). A coded copy of the company’s DR-418 has also been provided (Exhibit C). Per county policy, an ordinance was drafted and will be provided by the county attorney. The public hearing was advertised in the Northwest Florida Daily News on February 22, 2015 (Exhibit D). After the public hearing and, if adopted, the EDC requests that the Chairman of the Board approve and sign the appropriate resolution in conjunction with the ordinance. The project and all corresponding documents are being coded to protect confidentiality pursuant to Florida Statute 288.075 <http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?mode=View%20Statutes&SubMenu=1&App_mo de=Display_Statute&Search_String=288.075&URL=0200-0299/0288/Sections/0288.075.html>. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove request for EDATE for Project Proud. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemption for Project Proud.
