BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: February 17, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Jason Autrey SUBJECT: APWA Re-Accreditation DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Okaloosa County Public Works is an accredited agency with the American Public Works Association (APWA). In order to maintain the status as an accredited agency, Public Works must go through the re-accreditation process every four (4) years. The on-site inspection performed by APWA is initiated with a Re-Accreditation Agreement, Application for Voluntary Re- Accreditation and a re-accreditation fee of $8,000. Public Works requests approval to renew our APWA agreement and authorize an $8,000 direct payment to APWA for the re-accreditation fee. BACKGROUND: Okaloosa County entered into an agreement with the APWA on April 09, 2008 for accreditation. The Public Works Department was granted accreditation with APWA on June 03, 2011 with an expiration date of June 03, 2015. The Public Works Department is seeking another four year accreditation status with APWA. A Re- Accreditation agreement, Application for Voluntary Re-Accreditation along with a fee of $8,000 is required to initiate the inspection process. As part of this re-accreditation process Public Works is extending our accredited status to include the areas of Facilities Management, Equipment & Fleet Management, Bridges and Beach Management. The Re-Accreditation Agreement, and Application for Voluntary Re-Accreditation documents have been prepared and require execution by the County Administrator. These documents have been routed through the Contract & Lease Internal Coordination process and approved by Purchasing, Risk Management, and the County Attorney. Staff seeks the Board's approval of an $8,000 direct payment to APWA that will accompany the executed Re-Accreditation Agreement and Application for Voluntary Re-Accreditation. OPTIONS: Approve/Deny RECOMMENDATIONS: Recommend approval for Public Works to seek re-accreditation and authorize the County Administrator to sign the Re-Accreditation Agreement, Application for Voluntary Re-Accreditation and the appropriation of a direct payment in the amount of $8,000 to APWA.
