STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to award the bid to Sanson Equipment Company,
Incorporated for the pipe inspection crawler for a total bid price of $113,621.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: Two (2) bids were received for the purchase of a long range
closed circuit television (CCTV) pipe inspection crawler. Public Works staff have reviewed the
bids for compliance to the requested specifications. The bid from Sanson Equipment Company,
Incorporated was the only bid found to meet the desired specifications at the total bid price of
$113,621. If/when the purchase is approved by the Board a purchase order will be issued.
Public Works has previously received approval by the Board for this purchase for a not to exceed
amount of $115,000.
The primary use of this system will be to inspect and access underground stormwater pipes. A
pipe inspection crawler is a remote camera system that can travel through a pipe to provide
images that can be remotely transmitted back to the user. The images can be viewed to
determine the condition of the pipe in areas that otherwise would not be accessible or would pose
a significant risk to staff if they attempt to physically inspect the pipes in these confined spaces.
The use of these remote camera systems are acceptable alternatives for required validation
efforts for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding requests.
OPTIONS: Approve/Deny the bid award to Sansom Equipment Company, Incorporated for the
total bid price of $113,621 for a long range CCTV pipe inspection crawler.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the bid award to Sansom Equipment
Company, Incorporated for the total bid price of $113,621 for a long range CCTV pipe
inspection crawler.
