BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: December 15, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Rick Owen SUBJECT: Consideration of a Refugee Resolution DEPARTMENT: County Administrator BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Staff seeks Board discussion and direction of a resolution opposing efforts to relocate refugees from the Middle Eastern conflict to Okaloosa County without proper vetting and security procedures. BACKGROUND: In response to the on-going conflict in the Middle East and specifically Syria, the Federal Government of the United States is considering relocation of refugees from affected nations. A resolution was brought before the Board at the December 1, 2015 regular meeting with feedback provided to staff for additional modifications and improvements. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove resolution. RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends Board approval of the attached resolution with modifications per the Board's request. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: John Hofstad, County Administrator
