BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: September 15, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Elliot Kampert SUBJECT: Public Workshop Regarding Excessive Vegetation and Property Maintenance DEPARTMENT: Growth Management BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Staff requests Board discussion and direction to set a public workshop for the Board of County Commissioners regular meeting of October 6, 2015 to discuss excessive vegetation and other property maintenance issues. BACKGROUND: During its regular meeting of September 1, 2015 the Board of County Commissioners reviewed a draft ordinance that would, if adopted, regulate the growth of vegetation on private property (with some exceptions) in the unincorporated areas of the County. Due to a number of concerns, the Board directed staff to set a public workshop during which the Board could discuss the issues in depth. As the commissioners have previously discussed not only excessive vegetation but also other property maintenance issues such as raised during the September 1 meeting, staff will bring back information pertaining to property maintenance in addition to vegetation for the Board to consider should it choose to set the public workshop. OPTIONS: The Board may set the public workshop as recommended herein, not set the workshop, or provide other direction to staff as it deems appropriate. RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners set public workshop to discuss excessive vegetation and property maintenance during the Board's regular meeting of October 6, 2015 to be held at 9:00 AM or soon thereafter in the BCC meeting room of the Crestview Courthouse located at 101 East James Lee Blvd. Crestview, FL 32536.
