BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: January 19, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: GinNeal McVay SUBJECT: Request to Add Groundskeeper Position DEPARTMENT: Human Resources BCC DISTRICT: ALL STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to add a Groundskeeper position in the Facility & Parks Maintenance Division. BACKGROUND: In 2013 the County picked up approximately 471,000 lbs. of debris/trash from the beach. The amount of debris/trash picked up has grown almost 100% to approximately 940,000 lbs. in 2015. As a result of this growth the Facility & Parks Maintenance Division has purchased and is anticipating the delivery of a 3rd beach tractor/rake combination soon. The addition of this equipment will allow the County to sweep 100% of the Destin beaches daily as opposed to 3 times weekly on the West side and 2 times weekly on the East side, allowing for a cleaner beach. The Facility & Parks Maintenance Division is requesting to add a Groundskeeper position to their budgeted positions to operate the 3rd beach tractor/rake. The position will be 100% funded from the Tourist Development tourist related parks budget (0175). With approval, it is anticipated that a hire would be made in time for Spring Break. Once the sweeping is completed, the operators will assist in grounds maintenance at the Emerald Coast Convention Center and island parks as agreed upon by Tourist Development. This will allow for Tourist Development to reduce the number of temporary employees which will assist in offsetting the cost of the additional position. OPTIONS: Approve/Deny RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the addition of a Groundskeeper position in the Facility & Parks Maintenance Division to be funded 100% from the Tourist Development tourist related parks budget (0175).
