BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: April 7, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Jason Autrey SUBJECT: Public Works Backhoe Purchase DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: ALL STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Public Works Department Road & Bridge division is requesting BCC authorization to transfer funds for the procurement of a new backhoe. BACKGROUND: The 2015 Local Option Gas Tax (LOGT 3202) Capital account for transportation equipment was budgeted with $400,000 for FY15 equipment purchases plus a carry forward amount of $790,905 for the purchase of a hydraulic crane and boom axe mower from FY14. FY14 LOGT revenue was short in collections and subsequently the cash carry- forward total was only $580,124; this has created a funding shortfall in FY15 equipment in the amount of $210,781. Through inter department equipment transfers and purchase savings staff has been able to account for much of the shortfall, however in order to balance the budget staff recommends we forgo the purchase of the tractor and pursue the more critical need of buying a backhoe. Purchase of the backhoe is expected to exceed the available balance within the equipment budget, therefore staff is requesting to transfer savings from a completed project. Public Works staff is requesting the Board approve transferring funds in the amount of $38,000 from the Gilmore Road account (3202-563162) to the FY15 equipment account in order to provide adequate funds for the purchase of a new backhoe. OPTIONS: Approve/Deny transferring funds for the procurement of a new backhoe. RECOMMENDATIONS: Public Works staff request Board of County Commissioners authorize County staff to transfer funds for the purchase of a new backhoe.
