ISSUE: Re-appointment of representatives from Commission Districts 1 and 2 to the Okaloosa County
Planning Commission.
BACKGROUND: The Planning Commission is a volunteer board comprised of members appointed by
the Board of County Commissioners. This Commission is an advisory board which makes
recommendations to the County Commission regarding re-zonings, amendments to the comprehensive
plan, applications for development approval, and other related planning/land development related matters.
The Planning Commission is the designated “Local Planning Agency” for Okaloosa County for purposes
of Chapter 163 of the Florida Statutes. As provided in Section 11.01 of the Land Development Code,
each Commissioner selects a representative from his or her district, with all appointments being
confirmed by the full Board of Commissioners. The term of each Planning Commission member is three
(3) years; however, if a term expires and a replacement or re-appointment has not occurred, the Planning
Commission member continues to serve until the vacancy is filled.
The terms of office for Mr. Robert Cadenhead, District 1, and Mr. Larry Patrick, District 2, expire in
January, 2015. Mr. Cadenhead and Mr. Patrick have both expressed a willingness to continue serving on
the Planning Commission.
OPTIONS: The Board may re-appoint the representatives, or may find other representatives.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Board re-appoint Mr. Robert Cadenhead for another
three-year term as the District 1 Planning Commission member, and Mr. Larry Patrick for another three-
year term as the District 2 Planning Commission member.
