STATEMENT OF ISSUE: MTV Productions has requested permission to film the WSA Beach
Nationals Cheerleading Event on county beach area at The Boardwalk this March.
BACKGROUND: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county recreational areas, including
parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks, beaches or recreational areas
within Okaloosa County.
A request has been received from MTV Productions to film the WSA Beach Nationals
Cheerleading Event sponsored by the Worldwide Spirit Association at the Boardwalk on
Okaloosa Island. The Special Event Permit for the WSA Beach Nationals was approved by the
Board January 20, 2015. The cheerleading event will take place Saturday, March 28th and
Sunday, March 29th between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. each day.
This request has been reviewed by Public Works, Worldwide Spirit Association, the Film
Commission and the leaseholder. The applicant is in the process of obtaining liability insurance.
Verbal authorization has been provided by the leaseholder with written permission to be
provided. A Hold Harmless Agreement is in process with a notarized signature from the
corporate office of MTV. Fees for the WSA Beach Nationals Cheerleading Event were paid
with the submittal of the Special Event Permit of that event; this request is to include the filming
activities as part of the previously approved permit.
OPTIONS: Approve / Disapprove
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the request for a Special Event Permit to film the WSA
Cheerleading Event and picturesque landscape of the area at The Boardwalk contingent upon
receipt of insurance certificate, written authorization from the leaseholder of the Boardwalk, and
a notarized, signed Hold Harmless Agreement.
