BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: October 20, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Jason Autrey SUBJECT: WSA Beach Nationals Cheerleading Event 2016 DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: 2 STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Worldwide Spirit Association has requested permission to utilize county beach area at The Boardwalk to conduct a two day cheerleading event. BACKGROUND: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county recreational areas, including parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks, beaches or recreational areas within Okaloosa County. A request has been received from Worldwide Spirit Association to conduct a two day cheerleading event at the Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island. The event would take place Saturday, April 9th and Sunday, April 10th between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. each day. Setup for the event would begin Thursday, April 8th and final tear down would take place Monday, April 11th. Estimated attendance is 3000 each day including participants and spectators. This request has been reviewed by Public Works, Public Safety, the Sheriff's Department, the Okaloosa Island Fire Department and the leaseholder. The applicant has made arrangements for shuttle service from the participating hotels and the Emerald Coast Convention Center parking lot for their event. Insurance requirements have been met and fees paid. OPTIONS: Approve / Disapprove RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the request for a Special Event Permit to utilize county beach area at The Boardwalk to conduct a two day cheerleading event as submitted by Worldwide Spirit Association.
