BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: November 15, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Alvin Henderson SUBJECT: Closeout of the Project Lifesaver Contract (#C07-1524-PS) DEPARTMENT: Public Safety BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request Board approval to closeout the Project Lifesaver contract (#C07-1524-PS). BACKGROUND: In June 2007, Okaloosa Public Safety entered into an operational agreement with Project Lifesaver in participation with its International Search & Rescue Assistance Program. The program provided the EMS division with specialized equipment and staff training that could be used to track and recover elderly and demented citizens enrolled in the program if they wandered away from their homes or long-term care facilities. However, as a matter of employee turnover resulting in a reduced ability to maintain staff training and equipment updates, EMS is no longer in a position to fulfill the requirements of the partnership and has returned the tracking equipment back to Project Lifesaver. Fortunately, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has entered into a partnership with Project Lifesaver and taken over this important mission in Okaloosa County with early success in the recovery of one lost elderly citizen already this year. As such, the contract between the Public Safety Department and Project Lifesaver (#C07-1524-PS) can be closed. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove.
