BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: September 15, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Ed Schroeder SUBJECT: Beasley Park Commemorative Plaque DEPARTMENT: Tourist Development Department BCC DISTRICT: 2 STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval for a commemorative plaque at Beasley Park. BACKGROUND: This year marks the 100th anniversary of Okaloosa County and the 51st anniversary of desegregation. The Beasley Park Committee has requested a plaque be placed at John C. Beasley Park commemorating its history. The committee has provided preferred languages, images, and design. Attached is the proposed plaque image, committee approval for the design, and cost estimate. Staff has confirmed FastSigns will waive the deposit requirement. Board approval and authorization to proceed with ordering, installation, and payment is requested. Funding is available in the first penny. The Tourist Development Council endorsed this initiative at its June 25, 2015 meeting. OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Beasley Park Commemorative Plaque as presented and authorize staff to proceed with ordering, installation, and payment.
