Inspectors positively commented on the level of professionalism demonstrated by our staff, the cleanliness of the facility, and the high levels of performance they observed. Department of Corrections • Baby and Me was recently nominated for the National Commission on Correction Health Care (NCCHC) program of the year, and just received national attention, when the program was featured in the American Jails magazine in the Jan/Feb issue. • This program not only reduces medical issues among this population, but also serves to help minimize the unnecessary use of County resources and overtime costs during lengthy hospital stays. It provides education and support for pregnant inmates. • A key component is the level of community involvement; Corizon Health, our healthcare provider, brings the Healthy Start Program into the jail for a monthly educational session and refers patients to the Florida Department of Children and Families Automated Community Connection to Economic Self Sufficiency (ACCESS), which gives them access to Medicaid, cash and WIC assistance upon release from custody. The program provides the pregnant population with education, hope and a plan once released from jail.
