Dune Walkovers Grant (2880 : Okaloosa Island Dune Walkovers Grant & Transfer from Reserve) Jim Trifilio, Coastal Management Coordinator SUBJECT: Okaloosa Island Dune Walkovers Grant – DEP Agreement No. 14OK1 Background The State and County previously partnered under DEP Agreement No. 09OK2 to restore dune vegetation on Okaloosa Island. The County has now been awarded DEP Agreement No. 14OK1 for the construction of dune walkovers on Okaloosa Island, which serves as a second step to protect the dunes. Discussion The scope of services for this second phase includes erosion control and construction of six publicly accessible dune walkovers between R-2 and R-10 on Okaloosa Island. Significant cost savings will be achieved by utilizing County parks staff to perform the work. This is a 50/50 matching grant, with half of the estimated $218,700 construction costs funded by the State and half funded by the County. The grant term is upon execution through August 31, 2015. The County’s cost-share for the grant is $109,350. Staff requests transferring $125,000 from first percentage reserves to cover the required grant match and any other ancillary project-related expenses. TDC Recommendation to BCC 1) Acceptance of DEP Agreement No. 14OK1 for the construction of Okaloosa Island Dune Walkovers. 2) Transfer $125,000 from first percentage reserves for grant match and other project-related expenses.
