STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Growth Management requests that the Board authorize the Transit
Coordinator/Grants Manager to accept and execute the Google Online Agreement for Google's
FREE General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data which would be incorporated into Google
Maps following review and approval by the County Attorney as well as the County's Risk
Management and Purchasing Departments.
BACKGROUND: The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has engaged the
University of South Florida's Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) and Trillium
Solutions to produce GTFS data for selected transit agencies in Florida. The benefit of GTFS
data is for online trip planners. Google Maps will enable transit riders to more easily understand
transit options and plan their travel routes.
FDOT has paid for CUTR and Trillium time to perform this project. There is no cost to
participate. To participate, transit agencies must:
• Provide basic information about their transit services
• Verify stop location placements on an online map, and dedicate at least three
hours of time to a testing process.
• If they wish to be included in Google Maps, execute an online agreement with
Google.
• Be available for 2 webinar training sessions.
Again, there is NO COST to the County or OCT to participate in this service.
OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove authorization for the Transit Coordinator/Grants Manager to
execute the Google Online Agreement for GTFS data for incorporation into Google Maps
following review and approval by the County Attorney and Risk Management and Purchasing
Departments.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve authorization for the Transit Coordinator to execute the
