BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: April 5, 2016
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Zan Fedorak
SUBJECT: Request approval to sell scrap metal based on competitive quotes
DEPARTMENT: Purchasing
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Purchasing requests Board approval to sell scrap metal based on
competitive quotes, per policy.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: The Water & Sewer Department performs maintenance and
routine change out of meters and other infrastructure. This process has caused scrap metal to be
accumulated. The Tangible Personal Property, Commodity Inventory, & Accountability Manual
(Fixed Asset Manual) states that scrap metals may be sold by public auction or attempting three
(3) competitive quotes. Based on the amount of scrap which has accumulated, staff has
determined that three (3) quotes would be the best method of sale to facilitate bulk removal of
the material. The disposal of surplus and obsolete equipment or supplies must be authorized by
the Board. Proceeds from the sale of the scrap metal will be returned to the appropriate
accounts. (Pictures attached.)
OPTIONS: Approve/Deny the sale of scrap metal by obtaining competitive quotes to achieve
the best price per pound.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the sale of scrap metal by obtaining
competitive quotes to achieve the best price per pound.
