BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: April 1, 2014 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: John Hofstad SUBJECT: 2014 Emerald Coast Challenge Motorcycle Rodeo & Skills Training DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: Two STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Emerald Coast Blue Knights and the Okaloosa County Sheriff are requesting the use of a portion of the parking lot at the Boardwalk for the 2014 Emerald Coast Challenge Motorcycle Rodeo. BACKGROUND: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county recreational areas, including parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks, beaches or recreational areas within Okaloosa County. A request has been received from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office to use a portion of the parking lot at the Boardwalk for the 2014 Emerald Coast Challenge Motorcycle Rodeo. The event will be held from Thursday, April 10th through Saturday, April 12th, 2014. Motorcycle riders from as far away as Michigan and Texas are anticipated to attend this event. Estimated attendance is from 40 to 60 people each day. All monies raised by this event will be presented to the Emerald Coast Children's Advocacy Center. As this is a charity event they have requested a waiver of any Special Event Permit fees. This request has been reviewed by Public Works, Public Safety, the Sheriff's Office and the leaseholder at the Boardwalk. OPTIONS: Approve / Disapprove request for a Special Event permit to host the 2014 Emerald Coast Challenge Motorcycle Rodeo on Okaloosa Island. RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the request for a Special Event Permit to utilize a portion of the parking lot at the Boardwalk for the 2014 Emerald Coast Challenge Motorcycle Rodeo as submitted and consideration of the Board for the waiver of permit fees.
