STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to reject the bids for a compact excavator (RFB
RD 34-16) and purchase from the State contract.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: Purchasing staff advertised a bid for a compact excavator.
The bids were due on April 20, 2016 and four (4) bids were received. However, none of the bids
fully met the specifications. Purchasing staff researched the State contract and determined a
Bobcat E42 will meet the specifications. Staff acquired a quote of $46,603.40 based on the State
contract through Clark Equipment Company (dba Bobcat Company). Based on the bids received
the price is reasonable. Staff requests the Board reject all bids received for RFB RD 34-16 and
authorize staff to purchase the compact-excavator from the State contract. A purchase order will
be issued if/when the Board approves the purchase from Clark Equipment Company.
OPTIONS: (1) Approve/Deny rejection of the bids for the compact excavator based on RFB RD
34-16. (2) Approve/Deny the purchase of the compact excavator from Clark Equipment
Company (dba Bobcat Company) based on the State contract for $46,603.40.
RECOMMENDATION: (1) Staff recommends approval of the rejection of the bids for the
compact excavator based on RFB RD 34-16. (2) Staff recommends approval of the purchase of
the compact excavator from Clark Equipment Company (dba Bobcat Company) based on the
State contract for $46,603.40.
