BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: March 17, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Jason Autrey SUBJECT: Special Event Permit - Kitty Hawk Kite Festival DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: Two STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Kitty Hawk Kites is requesting the use of beach area at The Boardwalk for a Kite Festival. BACKGROUND: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county recreational areas, including parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks, beaches or recreational areas within Okaloosa County. A request has been received from Shandra Hillis on behalf of Kitty Hawk Kites for use of beach area at The Boardwalk for a kite festival. The event will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 4 & 5, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be kite making activities for kids as well as demonstrations of kites and toys. There will also be a DJ playing music at the festival. This request has been reviewed by Public Works, Public Safety, and the Sheriff’s Office. The Lessee at the Boardwalk has concurred with the request. OPTIONS: Approve / Disapprove RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the request for a Special Event Permit to utilize the County beach at The Boardwalk as submitted by Kitty Hawk Kites for a kite festival, contingent upon receipt of a current insurance certificate.
