Chiller (RFB# COR 20-14)

STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Requesting approval to award Bid #COR 20-14 for an Air Cooled
Chiller for Okaloosa County Department of Corrections to W.D. Rogers Mechanical Contractors.
Also requesting authorization for the Chairman to sign the contracts.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: On February 19, 2014, bids were opened regarding the
replacement of the Air Cooled Chiller at the jail. Eight bids were received with W.D. Rogers
Mechanical Contractors as the lowest bidder whose specifications fulfilled the requirements
outlined in the bid. The price bid by W.D. Rogers Mechanical Contractors is $189,000. The
amount budgeted is $225,000. All contract documents have been completed and are attached to
this item.
Background provided by Facility Maintenance: "The air cooled chiller at Okaloosa County
Department of Corrections is more than 20 years old. It was put on the 5-year CIP over eight (8)
years ago and it’s been on the top of the CIP list for more than three (3) years. Maintaining
equipment that is this antiquated is expensive, time consuming and it’s becoming difficult to find
replacement parts."
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove the request to approve the bid submitted by W.D. Rogers
Mechanical Contractors for an air cooled chiller and for the Chairman to sign contracts.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval to award bid to W.D. Rogers Mechanical
Contractors and for the Chairman sign the contracts.
