STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Update the Board of County Commissioners regarding the status
of the Bluewater Bay Municipal Service Benefit Unit Hazard Mitigation Grant Application.
BACKGROUND: On December 16, 2014, the Board of County Commissioners authorized
submittal of a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program application to the Florida Division of
Emergency Management on behalf of the Bluewater Bay MSBU. At that time, the application
deadline was to be January 6, 2015 which provided no latitude for any adjustments to the
application that may need to be made based on refinements of the project, and so staff advised
that the Board would be updated on the status of the application during its regular meeting of
January 6, 2015.
The application was submitted as approved by the Board. However, subsequent to the Board's
action, the State extended the deadline until March 9, 2015. Given the additional time available,
the Bluewater Bay MSBU's representative, AVCON, Inc., will continue to work with staff to
determine whether any modifications may be made to improve the application. Any changes
will be brought to the Board of County Commissioners for approval prior to submittal to the
State.
OPTIONS: The Board may direct further updates prior to the March 9 deadline whether or not
there are changes, or may direct staff to only bring this project back if changes are proposed.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners
consider this update and direct that any changes to the grant application be brought for its
consideration prior to the March 9, 2015 deadline.
