Sheriff Larry Ashley, Okaloosa County Sheriff Headquarters: 50 2™ Street, Shalimar Florida 32579-1234 Phone: (850) 651-7410, Email: Sheriff@sheriff-okaloosa.org Memorandum To: Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners From: UndersheriffAdams% CC: Sheriff Ashley Date: March 30, 2016 Re: Supplemental FY2016 funding request for Additional Deputy and Courthouse Screener With the closure of the Crestview Courthouse, operations will be relocated. Most judicial functions (hearings, trials, dockets, etc.) will move to the south end of the county. Those functions will be held at the Okaloosa County Courthouse Annex Extension (OCCAE) and the Okaloosa County Water and Sewer Building. Security (to include screening procedures) must also be provided to judicial functions occurring at the Okaloosa County Brackin Building in Crestview on an as needed basis. Additionally, the Clerk of Circuit Court and Comptroller, J.D. Peacock requests a deputy at the Crestview Court Operations Center (601 B North Pearl Street, Crestview). Clerks at the Crestview Court Operations Center assist individuals seeking protective injunctions or those who are under Injunctions and filing violations, deal with defendants paying fines/court costs, and citizens expressing dissatisfaction with the judicial process. The nature of these interactions makes a deputy’s presence necessary for the safety of the public and county employees. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is not staffed to man these functions at multiple locations. Until these new positions are approved and filled, the Sheriff’s Office will provide deputies and screeners at an overtime rate. The Sheriff’s Office will seek reimbursement from the Board of County Commissioners exclusive of unanticipated revenue on a monthly basis for this overtime. The cost per deputy will be $42.52 hour. The cost per screener will be $18.20. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation § ““The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office provides equal access and equal opportunity in employment and services and does not discriminate”
