BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: June 16, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Sheriff Larry Ashley SUBJECT: Byrne Grant Application Submittal FY2015 STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of the submittal of an application for the FY 2015 Local Solicitation, USDOJ Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Application for the Sheriff's Office. BACKGROUND: I respectfully request that the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approve the Okaloosa County Clerk of Courts (on behalf of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office) to submit an on-line application to the U.S. Department of Justice for the FY2015 Local Solicitation USDOJ Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. The total grant request is $40,627.00 (Federal Share) which will be used to purchase battery powered portable lighting units, hand-held portable thermal sensors, and a portable irritant dispersion fogger device, all of which will be used during high threat incidents involving large violent crowds and armed, or potentially armed, subjects, A portion of the funds will also be used to purchase closed circuit video equipment for a target hardening project at the Headquarters building of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO). No local match is required. RECOMMENDATION: Request the Board of County Commissioners authorize the Chairman to sign, review and approve the application submission, accept the award, and sign all future grant documents during the term of the grant. Request the Board authorize the Contracts & Grants office to submit the online application and on-line submission of future grant documents during the term of the grant.
