STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of the lease renewal for the space utilized for the
District One Medical Examiner. (L15-0415-CAO)
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: On October 1, 2014, Okaloosa County entered into a lease
agreement with Office of the District Medical Examiner, District One. The lease was for
morgue, examination facilities, general administration offices and support space at 206 Staff
Drive NE, Fort Walton Beach, Florida (Old Fort Walton Beach Hospital). The annual rent for
the use and occupancy of the space is $58,266.00 with a credit for services which are performed
to be determined each year. The credit for fiscal year 2016 will be $38,455.56 leaving a balance
of $19,810.44. The credit amount will be applied against the proposed rent for the renewal year.
The lease has four (4) additional one (1) year renewals. The lease was scheduled to renew on
October 1, 2015 and staff obtained the required signatures prior to the expiration. However, per
policy all leases are required to be presented to the Board for approval. Staff requests that the
Board approve the lease renewal and make it be retroactive to October 1, 2015.
OPTIONS: Approve/Deny the lease renewal for space allocated for the District One Medical
examiner and have the renewal retroactive to October 1, 2015.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the lease renewal for space allocated
for the District One Medical examiner and have the renewal retroactive to October 1, 2015.
