STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request ratification of payment in advance for MPI (Meeting
Professionals International) Buyers Guide in the amount of $695.00.
BACKGROUND: MPI Global Marketplace is a database dedicated to the global meetings
industry, helping meeting planners find the products and services they need. Renewals for the
annual Buyers Guide are taken care of during June/July in advance of open enrollment for new
advertisers. The convention center’s listing and keyword package run dates are September 11,
2016 - September 10, 2017. The convention center’s regional priority position on the website
run dates are June 10, 2016 - June 09, 2017. The total cost is $695.00.
Per County policy, Board approval for advance payment may be requested if the payment results
in savings equal to or greater than the amount earned by investing the funds and paying later or if
the payment is essential to the operations of the agency and the goods or services are available
only if advance payment is made. In this particular case, the services are available only if
advance payment is made.
The annual renewal has already been paid via credit card.
