BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: March 3, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Jason Autrey SUBJECT: Turkey Creekwalk Park DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: 5 STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The City of Niceville is seeking the County's assistance in enhancing the Turkey Creekwalk Park through the transfer of a portion of property owned by the Board of County Commissioners to the City of Niceville which in turn will connect the existing boardwalk to the entire walkway along Turkey Creek. BACKGROUND: The City of Niceville, through a series of grants from the Florida Communities Trust and Eglin AFB, have created a park and hiking trail along Turkey Creek for the citizens of Okaloosa County. The Board of County Commissioners previously assisted in the development of the Park by granting the City an easement under the College Blvd. Bridge allowing access to an upland hiking trial. Connecting the existing hiking trail south of College Blvd. to a continuation of the trail north of the College Blvd. forming one continuous walkway would require building on a small portion of county property lying along Turkey Creek. The City of Niceville is requesting that the Board consider Quit-Claiming .10 (one tenth) ac. of the adjacent vacant County property to the City for Turkey Creekwalk Park. The county attorney, Mr. Greg Stewart, has prepared a resolution and Quit-Claim Deed to facilitate to transfer of title to the City of Niceville. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove the transfer of title through Quit-Claim Deed and the Resolution authorizing the transfer of property to the City of Niceville. RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the transfer of title through Quit-Claim Deed and the Resolution authorizing the transfer of property to the City of Niceville.
