BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: January 19, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Elliot Kampert SUBJECT: Safe Havens Grant Application DEPARTMENT: Growth Management BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Department of Growth Management requests that the Board authorize the Chairman to sign the Safe Havens, Office of Violence Against Women, Justice for Families Solicitation grant application and the accompanying Memorandum of Understanding. BACKGROUND: Safe Havens “Justice for Okaloosa Families Project,” federal grant solicitation is in the amount of $ 557,329 for a 36 month period beginning October 1, 2016. The solicitation defines the project’s goals as: 1. Expanding services for victims of domestic violence by relocating the Shalimar Center to an ADA compliant location that will satisfy the federal safety standards. 2. The continuation of funding for the provision of services at the Crestview location. 3. Funding for required technical assistance. 4. Funding for Court personnel travel and training to Domestic Violence focused events and the organization and funding of a local conference for the Judiciary by the National Council on Juvenile and Family Court Judges. The accompanying Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is required as part of the grant application and, among other things, identifies the responsibilities of the various signatory agencies. RECOMMENDATION: The Department of Growth Management requests that the Board authorize the Chairman to sign the Safe Havens, Office of Violence Against Women, Justice for Families Solicitation grant application and certification letters, the accompanying Memorandum of Understanding, as well as all other grant documents necessary during the term of the grant. The department also requests that the Okaloosa County Clerk of Courts Contracts and Grants office be authorized to submit the electronic grant application on behalf of Okaloosa County, as well as all other grant documents necessary during the term of the grant. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: John Hofstad, County Administrator
