BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: March 3, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Rick Owen SUBJECT: Voting Equipment Citizen Advisory Board DEPARTMENT: County Administrator BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of composition of a citizen advisory board to formulate recommendations for voting equipment procurement. BACKGROUND: At the February 3, 2015 BCC meeting, Mr. Paul Lux, the Supervisor of Elections (SOE), made a presentation to the Board on the state of the voting equipment in Okaloosa County along with the necessary options and estimated cost of upgrading this equipment. Additionally, Mr. Lux proposed the creation of a diverse cross-section of community stakeholders to formulate recommendations for the procurement and funding of new equipment. The proposed composition of this citizen advisory board would include a Commissioner, a representative from the BCC’s Information Systems Department, Okaloosa County Republican and Democrat Executive Committees, League of Women Voters, Libertarian Party, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the SOE’s Chief Deputy, as well as one poll worker and another citizen appointee. In addition, the Supervisor of Elections and his IT manager would serve as non-voting members. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove the composition of a voting equipment citizen advisory board.
