STATEMENT OF ISSUE: To set a public hearing to consider an Ordinance revising Section
1A.04 of the Land Development Code (Ordinance 91-01 as amended) pertaining to the approval
of administrative adjustments.
BACKGROUND: The Board of County Commissioners has received requests from citizens to
be allowed to keep poultry in residential areas. The Board of County Commissioners has
authorized staff to research the matter and develop a proposed ordinance for their consideration.
Staff has done so, and the Administrative Adjustment provisions of the LDC are an integral part
of the proposal to allow the keeping of poultry in the residential areas. In order to allow this, the
Administrative Adjustments section must be revised accordingly. In addition, staff is also
proposing improvements to the Administrative Adjustment section to provide clearer guidance
for applications, review, and approval.
Staff proposes that the Board consider this matter in a public hearing to be held on June 16,
2015.
The Planning Commission will hear this matter during its regular meeting of May 14, 2015. The
agenda summary for the June 16 hearing, if set by the BCC, will include the Planning
Commission's recommendation and include a summary of the comments and public input
received.
OPTIONS: The Board may decide to set the hearing or not.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the Board set a public hearing to consider the
revisions to Section 1A.04 of the Land Development Code to be held during its regular meeting
of June 16, 2015 at 9:00 AM or soon thereafter in the BCC chambers located on the third floor of
the Okaloosa County Water and Sewer Building located at 1804 Lewis Turner Blvd in Ft Walton
Beach.
