BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: April 21, 2015
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Zan Fedorak
SUBJECT: Scrap non-ferrous metal to be quoted and sold.
DEPARTMENT: Purchasing
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to obtain quotes for the sale of scrap non-ferrous
metal.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: The County has scrap non-ferrous metal that can be sold to
generate revenue. Most of the scrap has accumulated from the process of Water & Sewer
replacement of existing brass water meters with new units. The current policy requires that a
formal bid process be conducted for the sale of these items. An amendment to the policy to
address this process is being presented to the Board as a separate agenda item. Purchasing staff
is requesting to solicit quotes from vendors in lieu of the formal bid process and will oversee the
disposal of these items. Purchasing requests Board approval to attempt three (3) quotes to obtain
the highest amount of revenue available for the sale of the scrap non-ferrous metal.
OPTIONS: Approve/Deny the sale of scrap non-ferrous metal to obtain the greatest amount of
revenue available through attempting competitive quotes.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approving the sale of scrap non-ferrous metal to
obtain the greatest amount of revenue available through attempting competitive quotes.
