Recommended Action : Motion to approve the
Kindergarten Reporting
System for the 2013-2014
school year.
Public Content
Rather than a typical report card, Kindergarten teachers use an age-
appropriate comprehensive reporting system. The system includes a
quarterly assessment checklist that is fully aligned to the Common Core
Standards. In addition to the quarterly checklists, the system includes a
Teacher Guide with exact directions for administering each assessment
element, A Parent Guide, a mid-quarter parent progress report and an
appendix. The appendix includes all resources and tools to administer the
assessment system. A group of Kindergarten teachers meet annually to
revise the assessment system; every item in the appendix has been
developed by the set of teachers. As of the 2011-2012 school year, the
Kindergarten program included full implementation of the Common Core
Standards. As such, there have been some dramatic changes in instruction
and assessment for this set of teachers and students. The assessment
system is completed on-line; MIS has developed a program that calculates
each individual skill score once the teacher has entered the raw score. A Gr.
K representative per school is trained to serve as a resource in
communicating the annual revisions. Upon approval by the School Board,
the Parent Guide will be available on the OCSD website.
