BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: April 21, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Jason Autrey SUBJECT: Inmate Work Squad 975, replaces WS822 DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Public Works utilizes inmate labor from the Department of Corrections for a variety of routine type tasks, such as pot-hole repair and roadside maintenance. BACKGROUND: Public Works contracts with the Department of Corrections to provide a Correctional Officer with the ability to supervise up to 5 inmates to perform a variety of functions we perform during our daily maintenance activities, to include pot-hole patching and roadside maintenance. The previous contract is set to expire on June 21, 2015 for WS822 at which time the new contract with WS975 will begin. Funding for the correctional officer associated with this contract is included as part of our annual approved budget. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove contract WS975 for a correctional officer to supervise an inmate work crew for Public Works. RECOMMENDATIONS: Request approval and authorization of contract WS975 with the Department of Corrections to provide a Correctional Officer with the ability to supervise an inmate crew.
