BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: August 16, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: GinNeal McVay SUBJECT: Tourist Development Department Interim Director Appointment DEPARTMENT: Human Resources BCC DISTRICT: ALL STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Provide an update to the Board of County Commissioners regarding the appointment of Darrel Jones as the Interim Tourist Development Department Director. BACKGROUND: In a letter dated July 2016, Mr. Ed Schroeder provided his resignation noting his intent to retire as the Tourist Development Director effective August 31, 2016. The County has begun the recruitment process and is currently assembling a screening committee to review applications and make a recommendation to the County Administrator to fill the Tourist Development Director position. Since this process can be lengthy, it is important to appoint someone to act in an interim capacity. The County Administrator has coordinated with the Human Resources Department to employ Mr. Darrel Jones as the Interim Tourist Development Director effective August 15, 2016. Mr. Jones will be hired through a temporary employment agency and will remain in an interim capacity until the Board confirms the appointment of a Tourist Development Director. Mr. Jones served as Okaloosa County's Tourist Development Director from May 1, 1990 until his retirement on May 31, 2010.
