BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: June 7, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Zan Fedorak SUBJECT: Discuss issuance of RFB for disposition services for unclaimed remains DEPARTMENT: Purchasing BCC DISTRICT: ALL STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Discuss the issuance of a Request for Bids (RFB) for the Disposition Services for Unclaimed Deceased Persons. In accordance with the Florida Statutes, Okaloosa County is tasked with providing for the disposition of the remains of deceased unclaimed persons. BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: On November 5, 2012, the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners entered into a contract with Lewis Funeral Homes, Inc, which expired on September 30, 2015, for unclaimed cremation services. The Board extended the contract on a month-to-month basis on March 1, 2016, until the new policy was adopted. The purpose of the RFB is to find a designated entity within the state of Florida, willing to perform the services necessary to provide for the determination of indigency and humane disposition of unclaimed deceased persons whose death occurred or remains were found in the County.
