BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: November 4, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Ed Schroeder
SUBJECT: FY15 SMP Update
DEPARTMENT: Tourist Development Department
BCC DISTRICT:
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Pursuant to Section D.200(2) of the Tourist Development
Department Operations and Procedures Manual, the Strategic Marketing Plan (SMP) sets forth
the proposed marketing activities and expenditures for the year.
BACKGROUND: Actual partner participation in the co-op program is less than anticipated in
the SMP adopted by the Board on August 19. Several co-op opportunities are not being pursued
due to lack of partner interest, and the agency has proposed alternatives. These changes result in
a minor net decrease to co-op program costs.
The Tourist Development Council reviewed this SMP co-op program update and voted to
recommend approval at its October 23, 2014 meeting.
Peter Mayer Task Order 150, which authorizes the advertising agency to purchase media under
the co-op program, is currently being revised and will be presented on November 18.
OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the following:
1) Elimination of Collinson Media (print), Rachael Ray/More (print), International Travel
Guide (print), and Southern Living (digital) from the co-op program.
2) Addition of Fall Travel to the Southeast (print/digital) and Southwest Spirit (print) to the co-
op-program.
3) Staff to present amendment of the SMP in the form of a resolution on a quarterly basis to
memorialize changes.
