STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to purchase sheet piling for a project on South
Avenue.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: On August 16, 2016 the Board approved for Purchasing staff
to solicit quotes in lieu of bids for sheet pilings that are needed for a project on South Avenue.
Staff advertised the quote on the Purchasing website, placed it on the Florida Purchasing Group
(BidNet) site (11 vendors were listed on BidNet), and contacted all known vendors. Staff
received three (3) quotes and two (2) companies declined to submit a quote. The quotes received
are listed below:
Skyline Steel $71,571.50
Hammer & Steel $101,420.00
LB Foster $103,194.00
Purchasing staff requests Board authorization to issue a Purchase Order to Skyline Steel for the
quoted price of $71,571.50 for the purchase of sheet piling for the South Avenue project. The
use of a purchase order will allow this order to be processed immediately upon Board approval.
The price of steel changes frequently and vendors will not hold the quoted price for an extended
time.
OPTIONS: Approve/Deny issuing a Purchase Order to Skyline Steel for the quoted price of
$71,571.50 for the purchase of sheet piling for the South Avenue project.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends issuing a Purchase Order to Skyline Steel for the
quoted price of $71,571.50 for the purchase of sheet piling for the South Avenue project.
