SUBJECT: Destin Fishing Rodeo, 2014 Event Funding

STATEMENT OF ISSUE: TDD staff accepted the Destin Fishing Rodeo’s application for
various marketing activities outside the local area under the TDD’s special events and
sponsorships funding program for the October 2014 event.
BACKGROUND: Section F.300 (8) of the TDD Manual states: “The Post-Event Report shall be
submitted to the Tourist Development Department Director no later than thirty (30) days after the
date of the Event(s). Failure to submit the Post-Event Report shall deem the funding recipient
ineligible for future Special Event and Sponsorship funding.”
Last year’s Fishing Rodeo took place October 1-31, 2013. Although room night information was
provided after the event, the completed Post-Event Report was not received until October 28,
2014. Pursuant to the TDD Manual, staff is unable to approve the October 2014 funding request
since the Post-Event Report for the October 2013 event was not submitted within the requisite
timeframe.
The Tourist Development Council voted to recommend approval of reimbursement for the 2014
event at its October 23, 2014 meeting.
OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove
RECOMMENDATION: Approve payment in the amount of $20,000.00 for brochure
distribution and television advertising for the 2014 Destin Fishing Rodeo.
