STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of selection process to fill a vacant seat on the
Tourist Development Council (TDC) and appointment of members of the selection committee.
BACKGROUND: The TDC is comprised of three elected officials (one member from the Board
and two elected municipal officials) and six qualified individuals from the tourist industry who
serve staggered, four-year terms. In accordance with Florida Statutes, not less than three nor
more than four of the six tourist industry members shall be owners or operators of motels, hotels,
recreational vehicle parks, or other tourist accommodations subject to the tax.
Martin Owen, who serves as one of the current three owner/operator members, has tendered his
resignation due to his departure from ResortQuest. Based on the current TDC composition, this
vacancy must be filled with a lodging industry owner/operator. The following process is
proposed for filling this owner/operator vacancy with a term expiring September 30, 2019:
1. Post notice and application form on the County’s website seeking qualified individuals
interested in serving on the Council.
2. The TDD Director shall accept applications through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4,
2015.
3. A selection committee comprised of the Board Liaison to the TDC, TDD Director, and
TDC Chairman shall review the applications.
4. The selection committee’s recommendations will be presented to the Board for final
approval in December.
5. The newly appointed TDC member will begin his/her term upon appointment by the Board.
OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the selection process to fill a vacant seat on the TDC as
presented and appoint the aforementioned members of the selection committee.
