The Latent Station and equipment are used to scan latent prints that have been lifted at crime scenes or from items recovered. The scanned latents are then submitted thru the
AFIS database and compared to existing prints. The computer will then return prints that are close matches. At that point a trained technician must compare the exemplars to
make a positive match.

(Note: Use whole numbers as the indirect rate, an example is an indirect rate of 15.73% should be shown as 15.73) To View an Example, Click Here

Personnel
A certified latent print examiner will be hired for the grant period to set up the latent print
capability, help the Crime Scene Technicians prepare policies and procedures for submission and
examination, mentor the CSI staff to help apply the methods learned in their training, and to
provide experienced oversight. The personnel costs will not be charged to the grant and all costs
will be borne by the agency.
Equipment
The Latent Station and equipment are used to scan latent prints that have been lifted at crime
scenes or from items recovered. The scanned latents are then submitted thru the AFIS database
and compared to existing prints. The computer will then return prints that are close matches. At
