BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: April 7, 2015
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Rick Owen
SUBJECT: Towing rates Resolution
DEPARTMENT: County Administrator
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Board, at its meeting of March 17th, 2015 directed staff to
bring to the Board a proposed Resolution which would modify the maximum rates which towing
companies may charge for involuntary towings. Staff was requested to prepare the Resolution
incorporating the rates that had recently been adopted by the City of Destin.
BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS: The Board previously adopted Ordinance 06-89, which,
among other things, authorized the Board to establish by Resolution the maximum fees which
may be charged on the towing of vehicles on private property or other involuntary towings.
Over the years, the Board has adopted various Resolutions which established these maximum
rates. The last such Resolution was adopted in 2008. During the Board’s meeting of March 17,
2015, a citizen requested that the Board consider the increasing of the approved maximum rates
within the unincorporated area to match those approved by the City of Destin. The proposed
Resolution incorporates the maximum rates adopted by the City. However, the City’s rates
establish a maximum on some charges that were not previously included within the County’s
Rate Resolutions. A chart reflecting the current rates authorized by the County and the proposed
changes are included as part of the Agenda Request.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Resolution modifying the maximum rates authorized to
be charged by towing companies for involuntary towing.
