Public Content Four Oklaoosa County School District high schools (Choctawhatchee, Crestview, Fort Walton Beach and Niceville) have been invited to apply for the 2019-2020 National Math + Science Initiative (NMSI) College Readiness Program (CRP) Grant provided through the NMSI Military Family Mission. To qualify for the grant you must have 100 or more active uniformed dependents in grades 9-12. All four high schools listed meet this requirement and if approved will be entitled to full funding of the program. The NMSI College Readiness Program Grant will support teachers and students in AP STEM courses through training, resources, and incentives. The program will benefit all students (military and nonmilitary) support of AP math, science, English and computer science. NMSI’s College Readiness Program has made a dramatic and lasting difference in more than 1,200 public high schools across 34 states, driving unparalleled gains in the number of students earning qualifying scores on AP® math, science, Computer Science, and English exams. The program: •Boosts AP® performance in partner schools by 10 times the national average after just one year and produces continued positive results over three years. •Records outstanding gains for female and minority students. •Succeeds across all school settings — traditional and charter, rural and urban, coast to coast. Students of military-connected families attend an average of six to nine school systems, making access to consistently high-quality education an ongoing concern. With support from the Department of Defense, Department of Defense Education Activity and corporate citizens, the National Math and Science Initiative is addressing that challenge through its Military Families Mission. By combining its proven College Readiness Program and Laying the Foundation teacher training, NMSI is striving to serve today’s 2 million children of our nation’s active duty, reserve and National Guard and ensuring future generations have access to the education they deserve. NMSI's Senior Director provided Curriculum and School administrators a full overview of the NMSI College Readiness Program Grant. District and School Administrators feel that the NMSI program is very prestigious and would be a beneficial tool for teachers and students in their schools. Attached you will find a brief overview of the program as well as a sample application.
