BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: June 21, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: GinNeal McVay SUBJECT: Deputy Director of Sales & Marketing Hiring Rate DEPARTMENT: Human Resources BCC DISTRICT: ALL STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request an annual salary of $79,206.40 for the Deputy Director of Sales & Marketing in the Tourist Development Department. BACKGROUND: We have recruited for a Deputy Director of Sales & Marketing and have been able to identify a candidate with strong sales and marketing experience for the position. The candidate, Ms. Maureen Morgenthien, has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a major in Marketing from Florida Atlantic University. Further, she has over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry including working with several national and international hotel chains as well as serving as the Director of Leisure Sales & Marketing for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. County Human Resources Policy provides authority to the County Administrator to hire up to the 75th percentile of the pay range. Because of our need to fill this position with a well qualified candidate, and in consideration of the current market conditions and competition for qualified candidates, the department has requested that we hire at the maximum salary of the grade. Ms. Morenthien's final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of all county requirements including a background check, most of which has already been completed satisfactorily at the time of this agenda entry deadline. OPTIONS: Approve/Deny RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve salary request of $79,206.40 annually for Ms. Maureen Mogenthien as the Deputy Director of Sales & Marketing.
