Mr. Anderson, attorney for Okaloosa County Gas District,
discussed the Okaloosa County Gas District Ordinance that
had previously been passed by the Okaloosa County Gas
District Board and a Resolution that the City Council
should adopt ratifying and confirming the usage of certain
terms. Councilman Tolbert asked questions about the
Resolution and expressed his desire to read it before it
is either approved or disapproved. After a short dis-
cussion, Mayor stated that due to the length of the
Resolution, being some 59 pages long, he suggested that
the Councilmen be furnished copies at some later date, so
that they may read the Resolution in its entirety.
City Manager discussed meeting of CATV Committee which
had been held on May 27, 1963, at 7: 00 P. M. He stated
that no recommendation had been reached. At that point
Councilman Carnathan asked for a ten- minute recess, so
that he and the other members of Council might have the
opportunity to discuss the CATV problem briefly. Mayor
granted the recess at 8: 15 P. M., and the Councilmen and
City Manager adjourned to the Conference Room of City
Hall.
Council meeting reconvened at 8: 30 P. M., with Councilman
Carnathan stating a decision had been reached that City
Council would ask the City Manager to contact a number of
city governments in Florida and surrounding areas, such as
Alabama, and pose a list of questions to them concerning
their handling of the CATV systems. City Council would
then abide by the decision of a simple majority and act
78
accordingly. The secretary was asked to read the questions
to be asked of the various cities, as follows:

5. What licenses does the CATV company pay?

or just the amplifier?
7. Do you require house drops or house connections
to be grounded?
8. Do you require a lightning arrester at each
installation?
9. Do you require master electricians to make the
house connections?
Mayor instructed City Manager to obtain the needed information
from nearby cities and states, in order that the situation
could then be placed before Council at some future meeting.
Councilman Carnathan stated that the CATV should operate under
the same procedure as it has in the past few weeks until a
decision has been reached, to be enforced retroactively at
that time.
