STATEMENT OF ISSUE: DRS Technologies has requested permission to hold an employee
picnic at Ross Marler Park on Okaloosa Island.
BACKGROUND: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county recreational areas, including
parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks, beaches or recreational areas
within Okaloosa County.
A request has been received from DRS Technologies, to hold a employee picnic at Ross Marler
Park. The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m. Approximately one hundred fifty (150) participants are expected. DRS is strongly
encouraging their employees to carpool to the park. In addition, they are renting parking space at
the Emerald Coast Convention Center.
This request has been reviewed by Public Works, Emergency Services, the Sheriff's Office, Risk
Management and the Fire Department. Insurance requirements have been met and fees paid.
OPTIONS: Approve / Disapprove the Special Event Permit request by DRS Technologies.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Recommend approval of the Special Event Permit for the DRS
Technologies Employee Picnic at Ross Marler Park on August 8, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m.
