The Planning Zoning Department for the City is involved and in various functions. comprehensive and current planning, Building Inspections and Code Enforcement. Comprehensive entails involvement with broad issues which have a Planning citywide, and sometimes beyond, effect and which set the tone for the City' s future growth and development. Functions falling into this category include future land use planning, transportation planning, parks and recreation. guiding certain capital improvements. and coordination with other entities all the way to the State level. Current government deals with problems the issues and of the present, Planning such things as rezonings, zoning and other land development regulations, site plan and subdivision processing and idII' regulation, variances, special exceptions, annexations, and the creation and revision of ordinances. Another responsibility of the Department is the inspection and certification of buildings and structural installations. All buildings, construction, existing or under must comply with municipal codes and ordinances. The Department handles complaint investigations regarding zoning, demolition, substandard housing, setbacks. and other related areas. The department is alsoresponsible for code administration and enforcement of municipal codes and ordinances that regulate zoning, construction, sanitation, land development, and public health, safety and welfare, including applicable State and Federal laws. Responsible to process code enforcement cases to the Code Enforcement Board, ensure with orders issued, maintain records and ensure compliance collections of penalties.
