BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: July 1, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Elliot Kampert
SUBJECT: Setting Public Hearing for Fixed Route Transit Discontinuance
DEPARTMENT: Growth Management
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Set public hearing for discontinuance of Transit Routes 1, 2, 3, 4,
5, 14, 20, 30, 32, and 33.
BACKGROUND: Due to a projected budgetary shortfall, it is no longer feasible to operate the
fixed route system without substantially increasing local funding. The Board of County
Commissioners has requested assistance from the local municipalities, but as of this writing there
is no commitment. As provided by the Okaloosa County Public Transit Fare and Route
Modification Policy, the County must hold a public hearing to hear comments on route changes
prior to implementation. In order for the discontinuance of the routes to coincide with the end of
the current Fiscal Year (September 30), the hearing must be held no later than July 30, with the
July 15 meeting being the last regularly scheduled meeting of July.
Notices of the revised fare and route eliminations and the implementation date will be placed in
all public transit vehicles and published in the Northwest Florida Daily News.
RECOMMENDATION: The Department of Growth Management recommends that the Board
conduct a public hearing to receive public input regarding the proposed discontinuance of transit
routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 14, 20, 30, 32, and 33.
