regardless of what approach is taken. The benefits are excellent speech intelligibility, excellent musical
a
quality, the ability to also function as a high quality delay system ( s) to the main performance area, and
as stand -alone reinforcement to either area of the park.
System " A" would be on the east end of the park up the slope from the stage, just east of where the
circular sidewalk converges with the walk that goes on to the east, and down to the water. Basically
straight up the slope from the stage, on the stage side of the side walk. This system will be comprised of
three Medium throw full range speakers providing 50 yards of coverage, north, North West, and south
west. A six speaker down fill ring will provide coverage in two zones, and will fill in the area directly
below the pole outward. The systems are individually powered and processed resulting in a four zone
system from one pole.
system " B" would be on the south end of the large open area and will be comprised of a long throw
providing coverage up the middle of this large open area reaching 100 yards (and beyond). Three
medium throw speakers will provide coverage in the 50 yard range filling in the middle of the open area,
and a four speaker down fill ring will provide coverage downward. Each layer of the system can be
turned on and off, and attenuated for a variety of preset configurations from very little sound all the
way up to full coverage with excellent speech and music intelligibility. This system can tie to system " A ",
and function as one large system with " B" being delayed to the " A" for additional intelligibility quality, or
function as a standalone independent system, or both.
The DSP processor used in this system is the Media Matrix Nion and does provide full network support -
We recommend the system be put on the network for remote access. A group of presets will be
developed for the various functions at the park. The graphic user interface (GUI) can be accessed via
any windows device. The Nion is expandable to be able to accommodate literally any size system, so as
needs develop at the facility the basis for a comprehensive DSP control system is already in Place. The
Nion can also provide control of external devices, such as a professional playback device with RS232
which will allow remote access to controlling playback devices.
in this alternate system the City will provide the poles and speaker wire. The wire requirement to each
pole will be a minimum of 4 runs of IOGa., minimum requirement. Musicivasters will supply all
components, mounting hardware, amplification, processing, installation, tuning, and on -site training.
The cost of this system as described is: See Alt. N1 price sheet
ALTERNATE PROPOSAL
Looking at the pictures 1 took on my phone while at our site visit is always helpful when beginning the
recommendation process. When I look at the pictures then I have to ask myself " what is it going to look
like?"
Again reflecting back to the site visit meeting some of the direct information provided is, " the speakers
have to be high enough to be difficult to steal or vandalize, and the existing light poles are not going to
be used ". Looking at the existing light poles, I then begin the process of what can look nice, and look like
it was a planned event instead of an afterthought. In reality, taking a pole and putting a prefab speaker
on it, regardless of who does the project, may not end up looking so great. The park is very pretty as it is
so what can be done to provide a good system, and something that will look nice?

Being in the business of sound system design we are constantly bombarded with products, but in reality
I am not aware of a product that is what I am thinking might be a great solution from both a
performance perspective, and a visual perspective. Having spent the past 33 years being involved with
church sound systems, and government and judicial sound systems, I have learned a lot about visual
aesthetics. While from a pure sound design perspective R isn' t even to be considered, from a total
finished product (project) point of view the visual aesthetic is very important.
Spending some additional time over the past few days researching and looking for products I am not
aware of but hope they did exist, I really didn' t find anything like what I was thinking. So 1 sent a picture
of the park, and the existing light pole, to a manufacturer that Is small enough to do custom work, which
we have used many times for custom products, and told them what I was thinking. And like usual, they
responded with " we can do that, sounds like a great idea, and here is what we think it will cost to build ".
Based on the available time constraint, at this time we can' t provide a lot of data, a picture, or even a
drawing and specification, but I can provide a description of the concept and should it become an
interest to pursue, we can then provide finalized data.
Mounting a speaker on a pole is it is only directional one way. This either means a lot of poles, or
several speakers on a pole, or some of both. So how can we make this look good? A custom enclosure
which provides 360 degrees of coverage modeled after the concept of the light fixture that can affix
atop any pole will provide a visually aesthetic solution and provide directional coverage in 360
degrees and provide flexibility in zoning the system. The speaker will be built like two half doughnuts,
and each enclosure housing three 1" elliptical horns and three high power 8" drivers. Each pole will
have two of the 180 degree enclosures making a full circle 360 degrees of coverage, six high
frequency horns and six a" woofers addressable in two zones so it can be 180 degrees, or 360
degrees. It will look like one finished product, no visible hardware, with a metal mesh grill on the front
with weather proof foam behind the metal mesh grill, nothing to tear up or break off. The pole will pass
through the middle of the two enclosures where they will attach using simple and common hardware. A
dome top attachment will be added to finish out the product. The speaker will look and sound fantastic.
