BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: June 3, 2014 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Rick Owen SUBJECT: EDATE Resolution DEPARTMENT: County Administrator BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Florida Statutes allows the Board to grant property tax exemptions for new and existing which will create new full-time jobs subject to voter approval. The Board was initially granted this authority in 2004 for a period of ten years. To renew this authorization, on February 7, 2014, the Board previously adopted Resolution 14-41 to approve language and direct the placement of the ballot question on the August 26, 2014 Primary Election. On May 20, 2014, the Board adopted Resolution 14-94 which amended the ballot language to conform to the statutory language. Since that action, representatives of the City of Destin and the Economic Development Council have requested some modifications of the statutory language. The statute allows some minor modification, provided that it is substantially in the form of the suggested statutory language. The requested modification appears to be substantially in the form of the suggested statutory language and would be permissible. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the resolution. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: Ernie Padgett, County Administrator
