SUBJECT: Contract Renewal with the Florida Department of Corrections
DEPARTMENT: Public Works

Statement of Issue: Request approval of the work squad contract to have the Department of
Corrections (DOC) provide an officer to supervise the county inmate work crew for the next
year. The contract’s effective date is June 22, 2013.
Background: Public Works has a budget line item approved to provide funds to the DOC so
that they are able to provide 1 supervisor to monitor the activities of an inmate work crews who
assists Public Works in road and stormwater tasks throughout the county under this contract.
The annual cost for this crew is $58,004. This contract reflects no increase in annual expense
versus the previous contract. This contract replaces contract number WS663 and will now be
identified as WS822.
Options: Approve/disapprove
Recommendations: Approve contract renewal #WS822 with the Florida Department of
Corrections and authorize Chairman to sign contract.
